One person was killed in a direct collision with an FDNY firefighter who drove the wrong way on the highway, according to New York City police. The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on November 20.

Thirty-eight-year-old NYFD firefighter Joseph Norris, who was off-duty, crashed into a 2007 Mazda CX7, killing another driver Anthony Mariano, 44, a beloved Queens public high school teacher. Norris was going the wrong way down Sunken Meadow Parkway near Smithtown when the accident happened near the exit SM3. Norris, from Babylon, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.

Mariano was a social studies teacher for 17 years at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside. He was about to marry his girlfriend of 10 years, but they had delayed the wedding for next summer, because of the pandemic.

The first responders found Mariano dead at the scene. They transported Norris to Southside Hospital in Bayshore in critical condition. According to sources, Norris may lose both his legs because of the severe injuries.

If you were injured in a car accident (even as a passenger) you should seek legal help. No matter how severe or mild your injuries were, never refuse to take medical help. Afterward, consult with a New York car accident attorney.

All the legal labyrinth may be too much for a car accident victim. Focus on your healing and allow your lawyer to gather the evidence and help you file the claim. New York is a “nofault” insurance state. This means that the insured person will be compensated by their insurance company for damages, no matter who was responsible for the crash.

Our New York car accident lawyers will review your case and advise you on the next steps. Contact us and schedule your first consultation free of charge.

  • Thank you for your help in settling the case of my father's accident. I could always count on you to answer my questions honestly and in terms I could understand. If all lawyers at Cellino Law are like you, I understand why they are an A-1 law firm.

  • I just want to let you know that I did receive my settlement check. More importantly, I want to thank you again for all you did for both me and my family. I could not be more pleased with my experience at Cellino Law. • This letter is to thank Ms. Diane D’Andrea, assistant to Mr. George Gridelli, Attny for all the hard work, dedication, and attentiveness she showed during the representation of my case. She was always cheerful and ready to help in whatever way she could. All messages left for Mr. Gridelli were always relayed and Mr. Gridelli always promptly returned our calls. She was a very competent assistant. Cellino Law has proven to be a model of what legal representation should be. Throughout the 6 ½ years of this case, I have heard many horror stories from people with “bad lawyer stories.” We consider ourselves to be very lucky to have chosen Cellino Law and will always recommend you to those looking for good, honest representation with a personal touch.

  • I am writing to let you know what an outstanding job George Gridelli did for me in my personal injury lawsuit. His professionalism and expertise were evident at our first metting and he and his paralegal Diane D'Andrea took care of me as if I was a friend and not merely a client. They both went above and beyond for me in so many ways that it would be too numerous to list and I am grateful to have had such an exemplary team represent me. When working with George and watching him in court he personified to me what a lawyer is supposed to be - an honest, extremely compentent man who helped guide me through the legal system. I could not have obtained better representation anywhere else at any price. To me that says a lot abut you and your firm's integrity. Thank you again for representing me and for having such stellar individuals working for you! I will continue to recommend your firm.
