Two young women and a man were killed when their car crashed into a tree in Queens early on October 6, the police and relatives said. The accident occurred in South Ozone Park near the outskirts of Kennedy Airport at about 3:50 a.m.

The twenty-four-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima was the only survivor.

Investigators think the Altima was speeding when the vehicle swerved into the tree. According to the neighbors, the accident caused a loud noise.  The neighbors rushed to the scene and saw that only one person was moving inside. The door was locked and the car was pinned down, so they weren’t able to get him out.

Officials denied the rumors that the car caught on fire and that the occupants burned.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to pried open the doors and tore off the roof so they could access the occupants. There were more than 100 first responders at the scene.

The victims were Brooklyn residents. They were identified as twenty-one-year-old Ali Mohmmed, twenty-year-old Kimani Foster, and nineteen-year-old Dior Berkeley.

The driver was taken to Jamaica Hospital in a stable state. The brother of the driver identified him as Adama “Jimmy” Diakite. The driver didn’t get immediate charges.

According to the neighbors, the driver managed to crawl out of a car window after the accident.
