Premature babies have special needs and deserve the best chance of survival and normal growth. One of the life-threatening complications found in premature infants is necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). It has been reported that premature infants have over a 300 percent increased chance of developing NEC if they were provided cow’s milk formulas because their digestive tracks are intolerant to cow milk enzymes. There are many non-cow milk alternatives that do not expose vulnerable premature infants to NEC which carries almost a 50% death rate.
