A seven-year-old girl was killed in a truck accident in Brooklyn on September 28. The girl was riding a scooter when she was hit by an armored truck on Monday afternoon, the police said.
Seven-year-old Sama Ali was crossing Bath Ave. near Bay 23rd St. around 4:10 p.m. with her family when the GardaWorld armored truck driver turned to the left and hit her, the police said.
NYPD spokesman said the police don’t suspect criminality.
The driver, a man in his 40s, said he didn’t see the little girl when she crossed the street. He stayed at the scene.
Even though medics rushed to help the injured child, taking her to Lutheran Hospital, she couldn’t be saved.
Sama was walking with her mother, a brother, and friends as they were coming back from the park around the corner.
The police are investigating the crash.
GardaWorld’s trucks and drivers have been responsible for several tragedies in recent years. At least nineteen people were killed in accidents caused by these trucks in the period between 2008 and 2020. Twelve of the fatal accidents were caused by mechanical failure or driver error.
The death of a child is always a devastating tragedy for the family. Even though in mourning, the family of the victim should know they can seek justice. Contacting an auto accident attorney is the best thing. The lawyer will help you file for a compensation claim. Make sure you don’t go through the process by yourself. You’ll be in mourning and might not think rationally. Allow your lawyer to negotiate with the insurance company.
