A  man from Coram caused a fatal accident when he ran a red light in Medford and collided his Mercedes-Benz into a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The other driver was killed at the scene, said the Suffolk County Police Department.

According to a department news release fifty-six-year-old James Palumbo from Yaphank was travelling south in his 2021 Chevrolet; he was making a left turn when he was crashed into. The man was pronounced dead at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue.

Twenty-nine-year-old Malcolm Steward was driving the Mercedes. He was driving north on County Road 101 with his passenger, twenty-three-year-old Savanna Steinbach from Shirley.

Steward failed to stop at a red light, even though it’s not clear what happened a few moments before the crash which happened around noon. at the intersection of County Road 101 and Station Road.

Both Steward and his passenger were arrested on drug charges. Steward was charged with weapon and drug possession that officers found on him. The police also found fentanyl and cocaine in the vehicle.

Stewart and Steinbach were taken to Long Island Community Hospital for minor and non-life-threatening injuries.

If you end up in an accident because of a DUI driver, you have the right to file a lawsuit and seek a compensation claim for your damages and injuries. It’s best to hire a skilled attorney who will help you with your case. Even if the accident is clearly caused by the other party, it doesn’t mean that the insurance company will eagerly pay. They will look for ways to offer a lower settlement or deny it.

Even though some people usually accept the first offer from the insurance company, you should play smarter. Let your New York car accident attorney do their job.

  • I really just wanted to say thank you so much for taking my case, answering all my questions, and mostly for being very patient with me. I feel that without you and Roza I would not have been able to get anything at all. I hope to never need a lawyer again, but if I do I will definitely want you both working for me. Again thank your for you hard work, time and patience.
