The police responded to an accident involving a motorcyclist and one of their own this week in Queens. At about 1 am on September 5th, the police arrived at the scene of the crash on the Belt Parkway. The crash happened in the block between Erskine Street and Cross Way Boulevard.

Two guys were out on their motorcycles when tragedy struck. Matthew Hester, a 41-year old man from Hempstead, crashed his bike into the back of a patrol car. The officer had been parked on the street helping a stranded motorist. His partner was sitting in the front seat of the car at the time of the accident.

When Hester hit the back of the cruiser, the bike ended up on top of the trunk. The driver flew off the bike and slammed into the pavement. When his friend realized what happened, he circled back to help his friend.

36-year old Tyrell Frazier is a firefighter at Engine Company 252 in Brooklyn. He was not on duty at the time of the crash. He stopped to administer CPR to his friend when the officer arrived at the scene. The officer noticed that Frazier had alcohol on his breath. He was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI.

Hester was rushed by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital where he later died from his injuries. He was unconscious and unresponsive by the time the police attended the accident scene.

The victim will likely not have a claim against the city as it appears he may have also been intoxicated at the time of the accident. There also does not appear to be any fault on the part of the patrol officer.

  • Joe and I just wanted to send you this note thanking you for the professional way you handled our lawsuit. Your kindness was extremely appreciated in a very difficult time. When we found out the people that caused the accident had no insurance, we thought our chances of receiving any settlement was nonexistent. Once we met with you and released you were able to help us our minds were put at ease. Your aggressive manner of handling the case exceeded our expectations. Please feel free to use us as a reference. Thank you so much and best wishes,
