Teen Dies in Lewiston Sledding Accident
Calendar icon February 19, 2021

Sixteen-year-old Renee Hill, a sophomore at Niagara Wheatfield High School was killed in a Lewiston sledding accident, after hitting her head against a tree. Her actions save the life of her three-year-old cousin, Ryder Kraft. The teenager was riding on a sledding tube with her cousin at Lewiston’s Clyde L. Burmaster Park. The girl rotated the sledding tube she was riding in with her cousin and received the full brunt of the crash.

According to the doctors, her heart stopped 5 to 10 minutes away from the hospital. That’s when paramedics started to do CPR on her. They got the girl into the hospital and kept trying to revive her for 45 more minutes, but she was already gone.

The three-year-old cousin had a fracture near his collarbone.

According to Hill’s mother, the girl saw a tree coming and her first instinct was to put her foot down and flip the sled so the boy wouldn’t get hurt. But, the teenager ended up hitting the tree.

Sledding accidents are common in the past few weeks as the snow blizzard took over New York. Even though people use them for fun, sometimes such accidents can happen and unfortunately the outcomes can be fatal.

If you have been injured in a similar accident or have lost a loved one in such conditions, and believe that the injury wasn’t an accident, you should seek legal assistance from a personal injury attorney.

They will investigate the case and help you continue with further steps. It’s important to have a skilled attorney by your side who has experience with such cases.

Seeking a claim for your injuries is the least you can do. Such accidents may leave you with a permanent disability and will need a long recovery.
