Twenty people died in a limousine collision caused by brake failure. The crash was caused by the limo owner who showed an “egregious disregard for safety” by putting the vehicle on the road despite failing a state inspection that mentioned issues with the brake system, the National Transportation Safety Board said.
The federal board had a virtual meeting on Tuesday to finish the report on the probable cause of the deadly accident that occurred on October 6, 2018, in Schoharie, N.Y. The driver, all seventeen passengers, and two bystanders died in the accident. The 2001 Ford Excursion limousine blew through a stop sign and hit a parked SUV in the Apple Barrel Country Store’s parking lot.
The limousine was owned by Prestige Limousine of Saratoga County, had a brake failure, and was speeding with 100 mph as it fell in a steep hill toward the “T” intersection of Routes 30 and 30A.
Losing a loved one in an accident is a tragedy. Nothing can bring back the lost life. However, the family members can seek help from a skilled attorney.
You may be entitled to get a compensation claim for the lost life. Make sure you don’t go into the process on your own because such cases are complex and may be lengthy. Allow a skilled attorney to take care of everything. Insurance companies aren’t very fond of paying high settlements so they will do their best to underpay you. Your lawyer will negotiate and won’t accept a low settlement by any means.
